The Long Weekend Awaits

With the 4th of July falling on a Saturday, my office is closed tomorrow, giving me a three day weekend! While we would have gotten off for the 4th anyway, it kind of feels like we’re getting a bonus day. I’m planning on leaving work at 4 PM sharp to get things started.
And how better to celebrate the independence of our nation than by getting absolutely hammered? Tonight, I’ll be starting things off by going to the Midtown Liberty Bar Crawl. This is always a highlight of the year, and I’m looking forward to doing sake bombs at Singapore Bistro. We’ll see how much longevity Mrs. Cutter and I have this year, as sometimes we hit the booze a little too hard early on.
The rest of the weekend should be packed with activity, which is why Independence Day is typically among my favorite holidays of the year. On Saturday, I want to take a trip to the National Zoo, but Mrs. Cutter seems uninterested in the prospect. I haven’t been to the Zoo in quite some time, and it seemed like a good time to go. We’ll probably just end up going to our pool instead. Assuming the weather holds up, of course.
In the tradition of last year, I will present you all with another 4th of July Memory!
Independence Day in 1989 was on a Tuesday, so my family decided to go to our beach house in Ocean City, NJ for the long weekend. My friend Johnny came along with us, and we spent the weekend doing what we typically did at the beach: Playing arcade games, riding bikes, and going on amusement park rides. My father and his friend set off some miniature fireworks on the beach, and we watched the much larger display that the town set off.
The next day, when my father, Johnny, and me were driving back home, there was a huge rainstorm. I was supposed to go to summer camp that day, but because we were so delayed by the rain, I just spent the day hanging out at Johnny’s house, and later in the day, we went to see the movie Batman. I enjoyed it, my father hated it, and Johnny fell asleep.
