There are certain songs that will always bring a smile to people’s faces when they hear them. Over the weekend, I learned that “Da Butt” by E.U is one of them. For those of you who may not be familiar with this wonderful song, here’s a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwTkwyBa__U.
On Friday night, at Union Jack’s in Bethesda, a few of us were discussing the song, and how it used to be a staple at our grade school dances. And then, the very next song the DJ played was “Da Butt.” Hilarity ensued, as the dance floor, filled with 30-something white people, went nuts. I’m now wondering why I didn’t insist on having this song played at my wedding. That may go down as one of my greatest regrets in life.
On Saturday, Mrs. Cutter and I attended her company’s holiday party. It was a semi-formal affair that was black tie optional. And yet, one of the songs played by the DJ was…”Da Butt!” Some of Mrs. Cutter’s co-workers might have wondered why we started laughing hysterically. The DJ followed this up by also playing the Macarena (This was played at my wedding) and the Electric Slide. So the musical selection at the party was top notch.
Unfortunately, the church hall that they used for the party may be inadequate for the company’s current size. Tables were overcrowded, and there was almost no room to walk around. But the food was good, so I can’t really complain.
It was a good weekend for my sports teams. The Temple basketball team pulled off a big upset of #8 Tennessee led by their appropriately named for the season star Dionte Christmas. The Flyers beat up on the Penguins. And after firing coach Maurice Cheeks, the Sixers defeated the Washington Wizards. Then again, everyone beats the Washington Wizards, so I’m not putting too much importance on the win.
As far as Cheeks’ firing goes, it was deserved. The team has badly underachevied, and while you can blame some of that on the talent (some of their players may be overrated), it felt like he wasn’t getting them to play well with each other.
And for all of my readers who are fans of the Washington Redskins…many of you thought it was hilarious that the Eagles tied the Bengals last month. You’re probably not laughing anymore, as the Redskins managed to top the Eagles and lose to the putrid Bengals. I’m hoping the Eagles win by about 20 points when the teams play each other next week.
Of course, the Eagles have to get through tonight’s game against the Cleveland Browns first. I’ve blogged in the past about my dislike of prime time NFL games, but actually, having a Monday Night game later in the season is OK. It provides a nice change of pace, and gives the game a big game feel. The Eagles need to win out if they want a chance to make the playoffs, so they can’t afford to take the Browns lightly. Hopefully they get off to an early lead and coast to victory so I can go to bed at a reasonable time with dreams of sweet victory.
